Currency, taxes and locale

Prices in chat match what your storefront would show, including your tax display setting — and why a cart may show a subtotal below its total.

Prices shown in the chat are meant to match what the same visitor would see on your storefront. Three things make that work, and one of them produces a result people report as a bug.

Currency

The chatbot shows your store’s currency — the one you actually transact in. There is no conversion: a shopper browsing from another country sees the same price your product page shows them.

Amounts are formatted using the visitor’s browser locale, so the grouping and symbol placement follow their conventions while the currency stays yours.

Currencies with unusual decimal handling are handled correctly rather than assumed to have two places. Japanese yen has none, Kuwaiti dinar has three, and both come out right.

Tax

Prices in chat follow your WooCommerce tax display setting. If your storefront shows prices including tax, so does the chat. If it shows them excluding tax, so does the chat.

This is the behaviour that gets reported as a bug, so it is worth stating plainly:

On a store configured to display prices excluding tax, a cart summary in chat shows a subtotal smaller than the total, with tax added as a separate row. That is correct, and it is what your own cart page does.

If it looks wrong, check WooCommerce → Settings → Tax → Display prices before assuming Sohay has it wrong. The chat is following that setting, not overriding it.

What is not covered

  • Currency conversion. The chatbot always shows the store’s transactable currency. A multi-currency plugin that switches currency per visitor is not reflected in chat.
  • Shipping-rate quoting. The chatbot cannot calculate shipping for a destination. It can answer shipping policy questions from your pages, and it hands the shopper to checkout for actual rates.
  • Coupons. The chatbot cannot apply one.

Each of these is a real gap rather than an oversight — worth knowing before you promise a shopper something the chat cannot do.

If prices look wrong

Work down this list:

  1. Is the storefront showing the same number? If yes, this is a WooCommerce configuration question, not a Sohay one.
  2. Is your tax display setting what you think it is? See above.
  3. Is a multi-currency plugin involved? The chat will show the store’s base currency regardless of what it has switched the page to.
  4. Is the product on sale? Sale prices are read live, so a sale that started since the shopper loaded the page shows in chat before it shows on their cached page.
