Turning the chat widget on and off

One checkbox controls whether the widget appears anywhere, and it is not the same thing as deactivating the plugin.

Sohay → AI Settings has a Show widget checkbox. It decides whether the chat launcher appears on your site’s front end.

On and off

On — the launcher appears on every page, bottom-right. A visitor clicks it to open the chat.

Off — nothing appears anywhere. No launcher, no script, nothing added to your pages.

What switching it off does not do

It does not deactivate the plugin, and it does not touch anything behind the scenes:

  • The admin stays exactly where it is.
  • Your Knowledge Base articles remain, and their public pages keep working.
  • Existing conversations stay in the inbox.
  • Scheduled jobs — syncing, retention — keep running.

So switching the widget off is a way to take the chatbot off your site while keeping everything you have built. That makes it the right control for:

  • Setting up before going live. Write your articles, sync them, test the chat as an admin, and switch the widget on when you are ready.
  • Pausing. A provider outage, an unexpected bill, a policy question you need to resolve — off is instant and reversible.
  • A site where the Knowledge Base is the point and the chatbot is not. The public pages work without the widget.

Hiding it in some places only

The checkbox is all-or-nothing. To keep the widget on most pages and drop it on a few — or the other way round — see Hiding the widget on specific pages, which covers the filter for it.

Testing before you go live

With the widget on, it is on for everybody. There is no built-in “admins only” mode.

If you want one, that is the same filter:

add_filter( 'sohaychat_should_render_widget', function ( $enabled ) {
    return $enabled && current_user_can( 'manage_options' );
} );

Drop that in while you test, and remove it when you are ready. Do not leave it behind — a widget nobody but you can see looks exactly like a widget that is working.

Where to go next

Customising the welcome message and system prompt for what it says when somebody opens it, and Does Sohay slow down my site? for what it costs to have on.
